Funding opportunities up for grabs for SMEs at the SMELink Conference.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 31 – SMELink Conference will provide pitching opportunities for entrepreneurs with solid business ideas.

The conference set for April 20 -23 in Kenya at the Movenpick Hotel has brought together venture capitalists looking to review bankable ideas in a session dubbed Rhino’s Den.

Those who want to participate must register first here

Judges will pick 9 contestants who will pitch at the SME conference. Three shortlisted businesses will be placed on the Investor Track on the SMELink platform for funding opportunities.

Among the venture capitalists to participate in the session include Chanzo Capital Managing Director Eric Osiakwan.

Osiakwan says the Rhinos will be looking for unique scalable ideas and a great management team.

“We consider the team behind a startup more important than the idea or the product. We will want to know that the team has the right set of skills, drive, experience, and temperament to grow the business,” he said.

Ultimately, the “Rhinos” will need to make a judgment about whether the founder and team will be enjoyable to work with.

“Do we believe in the team? Is the CEO experienced and willing to listen? Also, involving experienced advisors can be very helpful in the early stages to help bridge an early stage team that is still growing,” he explained.
